2020 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin Premier Cru Hommage Marguerite 750ml
Three 1er crus—Combes (0.33 ha), Perrières (0.44 ha), and Les Creots (0.52 ha)—were combined for the first time in 2016 due to frost. "The name is from my maternal grandmother who died around the same time as the frost in 2016," says Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. The wine offers "extra width of aroma but is tighter in complexity, with more depth of flavor—more to see and find. I slightly prefer the previous wine today for the extra juiciness—but this is excellent." (Burgundy Report, December 2021).
"The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Hommage à Marguerite opens with notes of pear, struck match, freshly baked bread, citrus zest, and wheat toast. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and chiseled, it's taut and concentrated, concluding with a long, saline finish." (90-92)+ William Kelley, The Wine Advocate, January 2022.
"The year started with frost risks, but our parcels were minimally affected—we lit candles, likely for nothing. Our neighbors had similar yields. Very few problems; we began harvesting on August 20. Despite worrying about the lack of rain, the Chardonnay reacted well—good quality and quantity with magnificent balance. The combination of maturity and acidity is unique—I’ve never seen it before. I've been working since 1995 with my father, and usually, you get one or the other. We started early on August 20, seeking acidity and sugar balance. The grapes arrived in excellent quality, with easy fermentations. The vintage produced frank and precise wines, marked by the terroirs." - Pierre-Yves on the 2020 vintage.
