Domaine Leflaive
COMMENTS FROM THE ESTATE
Located in Burgundy, at the very heart of Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Leflaive is a true reference in the region. It's hard to discuss Chardonnay without mentioning this family dedicated to environmental respect and the defense of Burgundy's great terroirs. With bespoke work and a biodynamic approach to viticulture, the wines of the estate naturally exhibit great freshness and purity. Across their range, from grands crus to generic Burgundies, the elegant and delicate signature of the estate is always perfectly applied. These are long-aging whites that honestly reveal the typicity of each terroir.
Created in 1937, the Appellation d'Origine Protégée Puligny-Montrachet, located in Côte d'Or, is characterized by pure, precise, concentrated, and authentic wines.
HISTORY OF THE ESTATE
It was in the aftermath of World War II that Joseph Leflaive decided to expand his estate to make it a true family operation. In 1953, upon the death of their father, the four children (Joseph, Jeanne, Anne, and Vincent) chose to maintain the unity of the estate and created the Société Civile d'Exploitation in 1973. Again, passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds, far removed from viticulture, engaged with passion in this new ambition: to elevate the Chardonnay of the Côte de Beaune to the highest level of excellence!
Joseph, an insurer in Grenoble, took on the administrative and financial management of the estate, while Vincent, a technical-commercial engineer in Ugine, oversaw the vineyard, the wine, and its marketing. The two brothers formed a team that achieved formidable results, earning the estate a worldwide reputation.
In 1986, Olivier Leflaive, Joseph's son, became co-manager of the estate with his uncle, and four years later, they were joined by Anne-Claude, Vincent's daughter and an oenology graduate. In 1994, she became the estate manager, taking it to new heights. Anne-Claude was a true star of biodynamics in France, embodying a very fresh, pure, and elegant style. She tragically passed away in March 2015, but her contribution to French wine heritage will not soon be forgotten.
Today:
Since January 2017, Pierre Vincent, former winemaker at Domaine de la Vougeraie, has taken over the management of the cellars and vinification.
Domaine Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet is one of those few exceptional estates in Burgundy. A reputation acquired several decades ago, confirmed by consistent quality and traditional, respectful know-how. Added to this is the introduction of biodynamics as a cultivation method, brought in by Anne-Claude Leflaive, who led the estate since 1989, and the excellence of steward Pierre Morey, resulting in the most emblematic estate of Puligny-Montrachet, characterized by pure, precise, concentrated, and authentic wines.
