2009 Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Shiraz 750ml

Jasper Hill and Ron Laughton are true pioneer's and icons in the central Victorian wine region of Heathcote. Georgia's Paddock is the larger of 'Jasper's' vineyards, with 12 hectares planted to Shiraz to produce a wine rich in character and complexity. Always known for it's extreme ageability, Georgia's Paddock Shiraz will comfortably lie down for over a decade to deliver a Heathcote Shiraz simply bursting with concentration.

Vineyard Notes

Our soils are derived from Cambrian period basaltic rock of 500/600 million years age. They are quite rare in the world because of their great age, particularly in Australia. Here in Heathcote they are unusually deep (up to 4 metres), rusty red colou well drained, gravelly loams on undulating hillsides, with good moisture retention capabilities. Occurring in a narrow, non-contiguous strip between two North/South running faults, they are typically only a few hundred metres wide. The faults give rise to a complex mineralogy within the soils.

Drinking Window: 2020-2039

Producer Tasting Notes
Vibrant magenta colour with a rich dark berry nose. Fabulous hit of fresh red fruits, a spicy luscious mouth feel and great more-ish length.

Critic tasting note: (2009 vintage) "Intense aromas of licorice and dark berries with hints of tar. Graphite too. Full bodied, with a beautiful core of fruit. Ultra-fine tannins. All there. This is breathtaking with laser guided focus. So long and balanced. Wonderful. Better in 2014." - James Suckling
